Stamps Radio Colour Commentator Greg Peterson To Join Canadian Football Hall Of Fame

The Calgary Stampeders congratulate Greg Peterson, the colour commentator for Stampeders games on QR Calgary radio airwaves since 1996, who will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame’s media wing next month as a member of the 2026 class.

Peterson started out with QR Calgary by spending two seasons as the sideline reporter. In addition to his current duties as the colour commentator, he is also QR Calgary’s pre-game and post-game analyst.

“It is very exciting to see Greg go into the Hall of Fame,” said QR’s Calgary’s play-by-play commentator Mark Stephen, who entered the media wing himself in 2013 and continues to team up with Peterson to form the longest-serving broadcast team in CFL history. “His enthusiasm and preparation have always been outstanding. It has been a privilege to be with him all these years and I consider him a great friend. Congratulations!”

A former defensive back with the Stamps from 1984-92, Peterson was a divisional and league all-star in 1990 in addition to being a 1990 Grey Cup champion. He had previously starred at Brigham Young University and was an NCAA academic all-American in 1982.

Peterson was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2023, the Calgary Booster Club named him Sportsperson of the Year, an award which honours an individual for 25 or more years of service as a coach, volunteer or administrator to sports in the local community. Peterson continues the role of president and a director of the Greater Calgary Amateur Football Association and the Calgary Spring Football Assocation.

Joining Peterson in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame’s media wing this year are Joanne Ireland and Dave Moir. The previously announced 2026 inductees are Brandon Banks, Sean Millington, Charleston Hughes, Calvin Tiggle and the late Jim Evenson as players as well as the late Frank “Pop” Ivy as a builder.
