It has been a dream start for the Calgary Stampeders through their first six games of the 2025 CFL season.
The Stampeders will look to continue their early season momentum on both sides of the ball when they return to McMahon Stadium on Thursday to host the 4-2 Montreal Alouettes at 7 p.m. MT.
Calgary sits 5-1, tied for tops in the CFL with the Saskatchewan, handing the Riders their only loss of the season just a couple of weeks ago.
The numbers so far are impressive.
The Stamps sit with five or more wins in their first six games for the first time since they started the season 7-0 back in 2018. They went on to finish that season 13-5 and win the Grey Cup 27-16 over the Redblacks.
GM and head coach Dave Dickenson spoke about what he has liked from his group so far this year.
“I think our energy has been good,” he explained. “I think we have shown up to play every week, we have continually gotten better so that’s something as a team we have to continue to do.
“The key is to not read when it’s bad or when it’s good. You’ve got to do your process. You understand why you are winning, what’s helping you succeed and you just try to put your foot on the gas just a little bit more every week. I think our guys can do that.”
You can look at the road record to start the season as another major improvement year-over-year from this Stampeders team. Calgary didn’t get their first road win until the final game of the regular season in 2024 ,and went 1-8 overall. This season the Red and White are 3-0 to start the year away from McMahon Stadium.
Dickenson gave his assessment on why they’ve been able to be hot on the road this season.
“It’s just a different team,” he said. “As players and as a staff you’re just trying to actually break it down into a singular game and look at the opponent.
“We also look in a little more; I think our guys have done a great job of just trying to make sure we are getting better and make them stop us.
“We do know things cycle, sometimes you get hot and on a run, but the same thing, momentum, does play out in our league and we’ve got to make sure we take advantage of it.”

Maybe the biggest surprise this season has been the Stampeders defence. They have given up a CFL best 111 points in six games this year despite having 12 new starters on that side of the ball when the season began.
“Credit to our players first and foremost,” said Dickenson. “They’re playing hard, they are tackling well, they are making plays. I’d like to give some love to our staff, the entire defensive staff is really doing a good job. The players after we play are saying that we’re not very complex, we’re just doing our job and that’s the sign of a good defence, just doing our job.”
