Dedrick Mills has come flying out of the gates to start the season.
The Stamps fourth-year running back sits fourth in the CFL with 218 yards on the ground through three games and says his success all comes down to the work he and his teammates are putting in.
“We’ve just executed the plays that the coaches call,” he explained. “I trust in my coaches, trust in my o-line and my quarterback. We have just gone out there and played our game.”

Mills also sits at the top of the heap in terms of rushing touchdowns with four already. That ties a single season high he set back in 2023.
“I just have to get behind my o-line and press it in there,” he said. “Having them in front of me, being willing to do the dirty work for me to get in the endzone, it’s been great.”
With Vernon Adams Jr. now three games into his Stampeders career, Mills says it has been awesome to be paired with the veteran quarterback in the backfield.
“It’s been excellent,” said Mills. “I love him, I love the energy he comes with. He’s a leader, he motivates you every day. It’s been great playing with him.”
The Red and White enter their Stampede Bowl matchup with Winnipeg on Thursday at McMahon Stadium (TICKETS) 2-1 on the season and sit in third place in the West after four weeks. Mills says he feels the team is on the right track to get back into the postseason.
“We’ve got to keep pressuring and keep pushing,” he said. “We’ve got to continue to stay physical, eliminate penalties and turnovers and get more turnovers. If we can do those things I feel like we’re going to be one of the top teams for sure.”
He talked about what the group needs to do to defeat the 3-0 Bombers and hoist the new Stampede Bowl trophy.
“We’ve got to play our game,” said Mills. “We’ve got to play together and be a unit. We’ve got to come out, execute, dominate and be the better team.”
With Stampede on the horizon, Mills hopes to be able to enjoy the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth following a win over the Blue Bombers.
“I’ll get out a little bit,” he said. “Take my girl out and do a few things. Nothing crazy but walk around the grounds a little bit and eat some food, get something good in my stomach.”
