As part of the Canadian Football League’s Women In Football program, Tatrina Medvescek will be working with the Calgary Stampeders’ coaching staff during training camp.

Medvescek has extensive experience in football. She’s a defensive back for the Calgary Rage and previously served as the team’s president for six years. Medvescek also has coaching experience with the South Calgary Colts minor football program as well as the Okotoks female under-17 six-a-side team. In addition, she is in her third year of officiating.

“We are excited to welcome Tatrina to the team,” said Stampeders head coach Dave Dickenson. “She brings a wealth of experience as a player, coach and administrator and her passion for the game is obvious. We’re looking forward to working together at training camp and I believe this experience will be very positive for everyone involved.”

“I can still recall the moment I first suited up and stepped onto the football field, that wave of intense emotion, going to battle with your teammates,” said Medvescek. “I knew this is where I belonged and wanted to be long term. Imagine waking up every day and this being your profession? I cannot explain the emotions that football invokes inside me, words cannot express how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity.

“It is such an honour to be selected for this position. As a player, coach, and official, to be welcomed into the Calgary Stampeders organization is certainly a highlight in my football journey.

“This coaching staff has been part of many Grey Cup championship teams over the years, many coaches who have played the game and won those championships. My takeaway will be to fully understand player development, what it takes to build a championship team and how the coaches methodically approach every single day. To be able to share the learnings, skills, and experiences with my current organizations and help develop each and every player I get to work with is an absolutely incredible feeling. This opportunity will provide me with so much growth as a player, coach and official and to be able to continue to utilize those skills and keep building towards my football path.”
