Here’s a closer look at Saturday’s 29-20 loss at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium:

Historic streak snapped

For the first time in 1,935 days, the Stampeders are on a losing streak.

Since Week 3 of the 2012 season, the Stamps went 103 regular seasons without suffering back-to-back losses. That’s by far the longest streak in CFL history and more than twice the previous CFL record of 51 set by the 1979-82 Edmonton Eskimos.

Calgary goes into Friday’s regular-season finale against Winnipeg looking to avoid its first three-game losing streak since the final three games of the 2007 campaign.

Rare loss at Commonwealth

Saturday marked just the second time since the start of 2012 season the Stamps have come up empty on a regular-season visit to Edmonton.

Including the playoffs, the Stamps are 8-3 at Commonwealth over the past six seasons. By comparison, the Eskimos are 1-8 at McMahon Stadium over that same period.

Nothing settled in Week 19

Week 19 started with the knowledge the Stampeders would finish first in the West Division, the BC Lions were locked into fifth and the three spots in between were still up for grabs.

Nothing changed after the weekend as the Eskimos can finish anywhere from second to fourth while the Blue Bombers still don’t know if they’ll be at home or on the road for the Western Semi-Final while the Saskatchewan Roughriders are wondering if they’ll be in the West playoffs or cross over into the East post-season tournament.

It will all come down to two games on the final weekend of the regular season.

The Blue Bombers will try to clinch second place when they visit the Stampeders at McMahon on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Eskimos and Roughriders meet in Regina on Saturday.

The loser of the Esks-Riders game will head east to face either Toronto or Ottawa in the Eastern Semi-Final. The winner will play in the Western Semi-Final against the Blue Bombers.

The semi-final will be played in Winnipeg if the Blue Bombers win on Friday or if Saskatchewan wins Saturday’s game. The game will be in Edmonton if the Bombers lose on Friday and the Eskimos prevail in Saskatchewan.

Hughes ties all-time mark

Where there’s a Will, there’s now also a Charleston.

Charleston Hughes picked up a pair of sacks on Saturday to bump his career up to 99, tying Will Johnson for the Stampeders’ all-time record in that category.

Hughes leads the CFL with 11 sacks this season heading into Week 20 as he bids for the third league sack title.

It’s the fifth time in Hughes’ 10-year career he has reached double digits in sacks.

Alex is Stamps’ tackle king

Middle linebacker Alex Singleton brought down six Eskimos on Saturday and now has 121 tackles on the season, a new single-season franchise record for the Stamps.

The previous record of 116 was set by George White in 2005.

Singleton also has set the Stamps mark with 123 total tackles (121 on defence and two on special teams). The previous record was 122 set by Doug (Tank) Landry in 1989.
