Two of the top teams in the CFL meet in the annual Labour Day Classic at McMahon Stadium on Monday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. MDT.

The Stampeders own the CFL’s best record at 7-1-1 while the Edmonton Eskimos are one of two teams just one point back of Calgary in the ultra-tight West Division standings at 7-2.

The Labour Day edition of the Battle of Alberta was first played in Calgary in 1959 and the Stamps and Esks have met a total of 51 times, with the all-time series split at 25-25-1.

A total of 61 Labour Day games have been played in Calgary over the years, with the Stamps posting a 35-25-1 record.

The Stamps extended their winning streak to five games last week with a 23-7 home-field victory over Toronto while the Eskimos dropped a 54-31 decision to the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Stamps are 4-0 at McMahon Stadium and have won 14 consecutive regular-season home games dating back to the 2015 season. The Eskimos are 3-1 on the road.

Military Appreciation Day

The Labour Day Classic will feature the Stampeders’ annual salute to the Canadian Armed Forces as the Red and White and their fans honour those who serve our country.

Special limited-edition military-themed Stampeders hats will be on sale at the Stamps Store and at concourse kiosks, with part of the proceeds being directed to the Calgary Military Family Resource Centre.

Prior to the game, Leading Seaman Brandi Sidoryk from HMCS Tecumseh will sing the national anthem, accompanied by the National Band of the Naval reserve and a CAF flag party. In addition, two CF-18 Hornets will perform a flypast.

At the conclusion of the contest, members of the military will come on the field and pose for a group photo with Stampeders

Come early for Fan Zone fun

The Stampeders are hosting a pre-game Fan Zone in the South Practice Field. The fun will begin at 10 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m.
