Here’s a closer look at Thursday’s 43-39 Stamps victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks in the 2017 home-opener:

A night of firsts: By the end of Thursday’s contest, the equipment chest that serves as a temporary trophy case for souvenir footballs was a little crowded.

No fewer than three Stamps players scored their first pro touchdowns in the home-opener, and it would have been four had another score not been negated by a RedBlacks challenge.

• Receiver Marken Michel, making his Stamps debut, made his first reception count as it was a 26-yard touchdown from Bo Levi Mitchell
• In the third quarter, linebacker Maleki Harris scooped up a Patrick Lavoie fumble and ran it back 46 yards for a major
• And finally, in the fourth period, rookie Tunde Adeleke returned an Ottawa punt 71 yards for a TD

Second-year linebacker Alex Singleton thought he had his first career touchdown, too, but an Ottawa challenge determined that Trevor Harris’ apparent fumble was actually an incomplete pass.

Tunde all the way: Stamps rookie Tunde Adeleke made history on Thursday when he returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown.

At 21 years and 204 days, Adeleke is the youngest player in Stamps history to score a punt-return TD, beating out Marvin Coleman by a full year. Coleman was 22 years and 209 days old when he brought back a punt 68 yards for a score against the BC Lions on July 29, 1994.

However, Adeleke is not the youngest player to score a touchdown in a Stamps home-opener. On June 30, 2007, Rob Cote – five days shy of his 21st birthday – had a receiving major in a Calgary win over Hamilton.

Marquay’s milestone: With his first grab on Thursday, slotback Marquay McDaniel reached the 500 mark in career receptions.

Only four other active players are in the 500-catch club heading into Friday’s games – ex-Stamp Nik Lewis (982), Winnipeg’s Weston Dressler (619), Edmonton’s Adarius Bowman (570) and Saskatchewan’s Chad Owens (504).

Home cooking: For the fourth time in team history, the Stamps have a home winning streak of at least 11 games.

The Red and White beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the final home date of the 2015 campaign and then went a perfect 9-0 at McMahon in 2016 before beating Ottawa on Thursday.

The Stamps own the CFL record with 27 straight home wins from 1992 to 1995. Calgary also had a 13-game home winning streak from 1947 to 1949 at old Mewata Stadium and an 11-gamer that carried over from 1964 to 1965.

Three of a kind: The 2017 home-opener for the Stamps saw all three units score a touchdown for Calgary. The offence, defence and special teams group all found the end zone in the same game for the first time since July 7, 2012, in Toronto.

Thursday night saw Kamar Jorden (x2) and Marken Michel each haul in a TD toss from Bo Levi Mitchell and Andrew Buckley then ran one in from 60 yards out. Linebacker Maleki Harris ran back a RedBlacks fumble for six points on behalf of the defence and Tunde Adeleke crossed the goal line to cap off a picturesque punt return.

One week shy of five years ago, Nik Lewis and Rob Cote scored on offence, Eric Fraser registered a pick-six and Larry Taylor returned a 125-yard missed field goal all the way to pay dirt.

Quarterback keeper: With a 60-yard touchdown run in Thursday’s four-point triumph, Andrew Buckley joined exclusive company. Just two other Stampeders signal-callers have had a run as long as 60 yards, and Buckley was the first to do so since 2001.

Gerry Dattilio, who like Buckley is Canadian, scampered for a 60-yard run back in 1982 and in 2001, Marcus Crandell ran for 61 yards.

On the latest long-distance dash, Buckley ran around the edge on third-and-short and escaped a desperation effort by Ottawa’s Imoan Claiborne just prior to crossing the goal line.
