Dave Dickenson of the Calgary Stampeders is the West Division finalist for the Canadian Football League’s 2016 coach of the year award.

The Ottawa RedBlacks’ Rick Campbell, a former Stamps defensive coordinator and the CFL’s coach of the year in 2015, is the East Division finalist. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 24 during Grey Cup week festivities in Toronto.

In his first season as head coach, Dickenson led the Stamps to a league-best 15-2-1 record and first place in the West as Calgary set a franchise record for most standings points (31) in one season. The Great Falls, Mont., native also set a league record for most wins by a rookie head coach.

Under Dickenson, the Stamps won 14 games in a row and had a 16-game unbeaten streak, the longest such single-season streaks in CFL history. The team was 9-0 at home, 9-1 against West Division rivals and led the CFL both in points scored and fewest points allowed.

Dickenson also serves as the Stamps’ offensive coordinator, guiding a unit that featured the league leader in passing touchdowns (Bo Levi Mitchell) and rushing yards (Jerome Messam). The Stamps allowed the fewest sacks in the CFL.

Over the years, five different Stamps head coaches have won the Annis Stukus Trophy a the CFL’s coach of the year a total of seven times. John Hufnagel (2008, 2014) and Wally Buono (1992, 1993) each won the award twice while other Calgary winners were Tom Higgins (2005), Jack Gotta (1978) and Jerry Williams (1967).
