A closer look at Monday’s 48-20 victory by the Stamps as they visited Toronto’s BMO Field for the first time:

First things first

With Monday’s win, the Stamps locked up first place in the West Division.

It’s Calgary’s 13th division title in the past 27 years after the Stamps had endured a dry spell from 1972 to 1989 without a single first-place finish.

The BC Lions have seven division championships since the start of the 1990 season while the Edmonton Eskimos have six and the Saskatchewan Roughriders have finished first once.

Make it 14

The Stamps are the first team in CFL history to go unbeaten in 14 consecutive games within the same season.

Calgary’s run of 13-0-1 since a season-opening loss in Vancouver edges out a 12-0-1 run by the Edmonton Eskimos to finish the 1981 campaign.

In addition, Calgary is just the third team in CFL history to win 12 straight regular-season games within the same season, matching the 1948 Stamps and the 2001 Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

No team has ever won 13 in a row in one season.

Hitting 30 again

The Stamps have scored at least 30 points 12 times in 15 games this season and, for the first time since 1996, the Stamps have hit that milestone in eight consecutive games.

Calgary has won 45 straight games when scoring at least 30 points, with the most recent loss in that circumstance coming on July 12, 2012, when the Red and White fell 33-32 to Montreal

Unprecedented run

On Aug. 19, 2012, the Stamps woke up licking their wounds from a 22-14 loss to the Toronto Argos the previous day, a result that left the Red and White with a mediocre 3-4 record.

Since then, the Stamps have been on a record run. Since that loss to the Boatmen, the Stamps are 65-14-1 in regular-season action, the best 80-game stretch in franchise history.

From early in the 1992 season to the 1996 Labour Day Classic, the Stamps went 65-15.

Bo’s dozen

Stamps signal-caller Bo Levi Mitchell has tied the record for most consecutive starts won with 12, tying the standard set by Winnipeg’s Ken Ploen in 1961.

Mitchell now also has sole possession of the record for the longest unbeaten string of starts in CFL history with 14. He had been tied with ex-Eskimos Warren Moon at 13.

Dave’s baker’s dozen

Dave Dickenson has become the fourth head coach in CFL history to win 13 games in his first season.

With the Stamps’ win in the Big Smoke on Monday, Dickenson ties John Hufnagel (who won 13 games with the Stamps in 2008) as well as Adam Rita (with Toronto in 1991) and Mike Benevides (with BC in 2012) for the record.

Dickenson has three chances to take the record outright.

One grand running back

Stamps tailback Jerome Messam ran for 133 yards against the Argonauts and now has 1,002 yards for the season.

It’s Messam’s third career 1,000-yard season and his second in a row.

He needs 56 more yards to establish a new single-season career high — he ran for 1,057 yards in 2011.

In the past 21 years, Stamps running backs have had 17 seasons with 1,000 rushing yards and Messam is just the fourth different player to contribute to that total. Kelvin Anderson had seven seasons with 1,000, Joffrey Reynolds had six and Jon Cornish did it three times.

Messam has built a 172-yard lead over Toronto’s Brandon Whitaker as he aims for the CFL rushing title. He is bidding to become the 10th different Stamps player to be the league’s No. 1 ground gainer since full stats started being kept nation-wide in 1954.

Messam also leads the CFL with 11 rushing touchdowns, four more than his closest pursuer.

The Stamps’ single-season record is 14, set by Tony Stewart in 1994. Earl Lunsford (13 in 1960), Lovell Coleman (13 in 1963), James Sykes (13 in 1978) and Jon Cornish (12 in 2013) are the only other Stamps to have scored more rushing majors in a season than Messam.

Sweet Toot

Stamps receiver DaVaris (Toot) Daniels is making a spectacular late push for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award.

Despite spending the first seven games of the season on the practice roster, Daniels has made up for lost time with seven touchdowns and four 100-yard games over eight starts since entering the lineup on Aug. 19.

His past two games have been especially flashy with 10 catches for 249 yards — a nifty 24.9-yard-per-catch average — and three touchdowns.

Prorated over the 15 games played to date, Daniels’ statline would be something on the order of 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns, which would put him in third and first place league-wide in those respective categories.

Since entering the lineup, only Edmonton’s Adarius Bowman has more receiving yards than Daniels’ 690.

By the way, one of Daniels’ toughest competitors for the rookie award is teammate Alex Singleton, who has made a great impact on special teams and also on defence since claiming the starting job at middle linebacker.
