Here’s a closer look at the Stamps’ wild and woolly 34-28 double-overtime win over the Eskimos in the Labour Day rematch on Saturday in Edmonton:

How sweep it is

This marks the fourth time in the past five seasons the Stamps have swept the early-September home-and-home series against their neighbours to the north.

Calgary has picked up the sweep in six of the past eight years and has won at least one of the back-to-back contests 12 straight years since Edmonton swept in 2004.

The Stamps have won 10 of the 12 most recent Labour Day rematches at Edmonton’ Commonwealth Stadium.

OT magic

The Stamps have now gone to overtime three times in the past nine games.

Their previous three overtime affairs were played over a period that covered 156 games from 2007 to 2016.

This is the first time since 2002 the Stamps have played three overtime games in one season and only the second season in franchise history — 1991 was the other — Calgary has won twice in extra time.

Winning the West

Thanks to an early-season schedule loaded with division opponents and a great start, the Stamps have already clinched the season series against each of the other West teams.

It’s the ninth time in franchise history Calgary has taken the season series against every division opponent and it’s by far the earliest date that accomplishment has occurred. The unbeaten 1948 team — in those days, all games were within the division — locked up the season series against the other West teams on Oct. 4 of that year.

Of the nine times the Stamps have won the season series against each division opponent, they’ve done it outright — that is, by winning more games head-to-head against all the teams rather than prevailing on the point-differential tie-breaker — on five occasions including this year.

Bo hits 3-oh-oh, again

Bo Levi Mitchell surpassed the 300-yard mark in passing on Saturday, marking the ninth time in 11 games this season he’s done so.

He came into 2016 with eight 300-yard passing games in 34 career starts.

Mitchell’s regular-season record as a starter improves to 30 games over .500 (37-7-1).

BC’s Travis Lulay, who is a career 13 games over .500, is second among active quarterbacks in that category while Hamilton’s Zach Collaros — plus-9 heading into Sunday’s game against Toronto — is tops among current starters.

Heads above water

Saturday’s result clinches the Stamps’ ninth straight above-.500 season.

That’s by far the longest active run in the CFL as the Edmonton Eskimos, who came into the 2016 season with two straight winning seasons, are the only other team with a streak.

Three Eastern teams — Ottawa, Hamilton and Toronto — are bidding for a second consecutive above-.500 finish.
