In this case, however, let’s make it “About yesterday afternoon.” Here’s a closer look at the Stamps’ 45-24 Labour Day Classic victory over the Eskimos on Monday at McMahon Stadium:

Top 10

Since the 2005 season when the BC Lions started 10-0, only three CFL teams have reached the 10-game mark with a single loss and on each occasion it’s been the Stampeders.

In 2010 and 2014 (when the Red and White were 9-1) and now again this season (8-1-1) the Stamps have reached the 10-game mark with a single setback.

The Stamps have rattled off seven straight wins for the first time since July 24-Sept. 10, 2010, and are unbeaten in nine straight for the first time since they won their final three regular-season games in 1994 season and the first seven contests the following season.

Frontrunners

Late in the first quarter of a Week 10 game between the Stampeders and Tiger-Cats, Hamilton took a 6-3 on a touchdown pass from Zach Collaros to Terrence Toliver.

After a convert and kickoff, Bo Levi Mitchell completed a 76-yard pass to DaVaris Daniels as the Stamps reclaimed the lead.

The 24 seconds between the touchdowns represent the sum total of the time the Stamps have trailed their opponents in the past three games.

Going back even further, Calgary has been behind for just six minutes and three seconds in the past five games while leading for 267 minutes and 23 seconds and being tied for 26:34.

Since they went into the three-minute warning of a July 29 game against BC down by 15 points (before rallying for an overtime victory) the Stamps have outscored the opposition 184-82.

Century celebration

Stampeders tailback Jerome Messam played his 100th regular-season game on Monday, and he did it with style.

Messam rushed for 110 yards — his third 100-yard game of the season — and scored a pair of touchdowns including an impressive 47-yard dash late in the fourth quarter that put an exclamation point on the Calgary win.

With 652 rushing yards on the season, Messam is just three yards back of Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris for the CFL rushing lead. Messam has accumulated his yardage despite 22 fewer carries than Harris and he tops the CFL with seven rushing touchdowns.

His ball-carrying work has been praiseworthy but let’s not forget Messam’s pass-catching. He now has 35 catches for 324 yards and he’s on pace to smash his career bests of 35 and 324 set a year ago in a season split between Saskatchewan and Calgary.

El Matador, el magnifico

Rene Paredes is on a run unprecedented by anyone not named “Rene Paredes.”

The Stamps’ kicker was three-for-three on field-goal attempts on Monday and has now nailed 31 in a row. That’s the longest streak within a single season in CFL history and the second overall behind only Paredes’ streak of 39 that carried over from the 2012 season to 2013.

Paredes is now 44 for 47 on field-goal attempts against Edmonton during his career including 40 in a row since a miss in the 2011 Labour Day rematch game.

A.P. is A-OK

There are still eight games remaining in the 2016 season but already Anthony Parker is having a career year.

Asked to play a more significant role in the Stamps offence this season after the departure of some key receivers, the veteran University of Calgary product has responded in a major way.

When he caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter of Monday’s Labour Day Classic, he set a new career single-season in catches with 34 (surpassing the 33 catches he had on 2014).

Later in the contest, he had a 57-yard catch to rise above the personal best of 443 he established last season. By the end of the afternoon, Parker had reached an even 500 yards.

Parker’s three touchdown receptions are tied for the team lead and he trails only Marquay McDaniel in catches and yardage.

Hog heaven

Make it three shutouts in a row for the Stampeders offensive line.

Calgary did not allow a sack in the Labour Day Classic and Bo Levi Mitchell has thrown 107 passes over the past three games without being sacked.

Calgary has allowed just 10 sacks for the season, which is half as many as the 20 the Eskimos, the next-best team at protecting the quarterback, have allowed.

The Stamps have excelled at protecting the quarterback despite having nine different offensive linemen start a game this season including four different centres and three different right tackles.

A huge assist goes to the receivers and running backs who have played a key role in pass protection and Mitchell’s ability to get out of harm’s way and get rid of the ball quickly when the enemy does sneak into the danger zone.
