Here’s a closer look at Thursday’s 35-15 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium:

First third in the books

The Stamps complete the first third of the regular season with a 4-1-1 record, a slight improvement over the 4-2 mark at the six-game mark a year ago.

Despite concerns about the loss of key offensive players such as Jon Cornish, Eric Rogers and Jeff Fuller, the 2016 Stamps have actually scored 55 more points than last year’s team after six games.

Other key improvements in the stats department at this juncture come in sacks allowed (eight this season compared to 14 last year) and turnover differential (plus-6 compared to minus-3).

The Stamps have a winning record in 12 straight thirds of seasons and have been at least .500 in 25 straight thirds since going 1-5 in the final six games of the 2007 campaign.

Robust start to August

The Stamps started August off on the right foot, maintaining a winning streak while doing so.

Calgary has now won eight straight August contests since a 25-24 setback to the BC Lions on Aug. 1, 2014. The Stamps have won 23 of 27 August games since the start of the 2008 season and their .852 winning percentage is their best in any month during that period.

Balanced attack

With 110 yards against Saskatchewan, Marquay McDaniel became the first Stamp this season to lead the team in receiving in multiple games.

In six games to date, five different receivers have led the team in receiving as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has effectively spread the ball around.

Bo keeps rolling

Stamps signal-caller Bo Levi Mitchell has now thrown a touchdown pass in 21 straight games, the fourth-longest such run in CFL history.

He also improved his all-time best winning percentage to .813 on the strength of a 32-7-1 record.

Mitchell is now 4-0 in his career against the Roughriders, one of three teams against which he is undefeated. He’s 5-0 against Hamilton and 4-0 against Toronto.

The fifth-year vet is on a pace for 456 completions, 5,688 yards and 36 touchdowns, which would all easily surpass his previous career highs.
