Just Trying to Make the Best Decision

General manager and head coach Dave Dickenson spoke following the conclusion of camp and said his staff will take a hard look at the decisions they need to make.

“It’s a lot tougher on the players,” he said. “Sometimes you just make your best informed decisions, you’re not sure if it’s always right but you’re doing the best you can. You do it with conviction and treat people as men.

“It’s bittersweet for the guys for sure, they are going to get together tonight and do what we call our rookie show which is a chance for everyone to take a little of the pressure off and relax and have some fun, but then the next morning you are getting calls to people. For some, who knows what their expectations are, but for us we are just going to try our best to watch this practice and grade everything overall as an entire camp and try to find the right mix.”

Dickenson spoke on his group from camp overall.

“Our owners put on a nice BBQ last night for us,” he explained. “I was impressed with how our players interact with people and their character and I guess authenticity. Not that it’s different from other teams but I felt like this is a group that enjoys being here, enjoys competing against each other and playing together.

“Ownership came up to me and said this is some of the most talkative, authentic, people are the most interested to ask questions, guys that I think are going to make this team better.”

P.J. Walker Enjoyed His First CFL Camp

Thursday wraps up P.J. Walker’s first camp with the Red and White and he talked about the experience heading into the regular season.

“I thought it was great,” said Walker. “I thought it was a great experience, I loved the opportunities that I got. Being able to come out here and compete with the guys and play against the guys, I had a great time.”

Walker says he will use the knowledge he gained from the past 18 days to make himself a better player as he enters his first full CFL season after joining the team late last year.

“Soaking up all the information I can from Vernon Adams Jr., just learning from a guy like that is exceptional,” he said. “To be able to relate to him and hear what he’s saying and implement those things throughout my game and through the whole QB room as well.

“I think Dakota (Prukop) has done a great job as well guiding us as quarterbacks and trying to make things right for us. I think it’s been a great experience and I’m just taking it one day at a time and being grateful for the opportunity.”
