Call On Kobe

Looking for a defensive back that can fit into any spot in your secondary?

Kobe Williams is ready to answer the call.

The versatile DB has played snaps at just about every defensive back position on the field already this season.

Through the Stamps first two games, he’s lined up at corner, halfback and even a little at the SAM position.

“That’s just me being a football player,” Williams said. “I know the playbook so well, everything just comes down to ball. I played corner all my years in college and messed up my hand and played safety one year so everything has just been working in place and now I’m everywhere.”

Williams has had a strong start to the season despite the movement. He had three knockdowns and two tackles in the Stamps 26-15 win over Ottawa last Thursday.

Williams, who played in one game for the Stamps in 2021 before dressing in 11 last year, says he is ready to take a big step this season.

“I feel comfortable,” he said. “Getting comfortable in this league, playing that corner or field-half, I’m everywhere but I want to introduce myself in this league as a dominant player and I want to keep it going.”

Williams knows Week 3 will be a big one as the Stamps welcome the rival Saskatchewan Roughriders to McMahon Stadium Saturday at 5 p.m. and he is aware that the Riders offence can make some big plays and that his group will have to be sharp.

“The Riders receiving core is explosive,” said Williams. “They can make a lot of plays any time of the game all across the board. You’ve got (Shawn) Bane Jr., (Jake) Wieneke and even (Samuel) Emilus that can make plays at any time so we’ve got to be locked in, we’ve got a huge challenge ahead of us.”

Despite the challenge Williams is pumped to get going in this big game in front of the home crowd.

“We’ve got to come to play and give our fans a win,” Williams said. “This is like a playoff game to us. It’s going to be a tough game. Our DB core knows the challenge ahead and we know it’s going to come all four quarters so it’s going to be a great one to watch for the fans for sure.”
