GREAT NEIGHBOUR GAME AT McMAHON A SUCCESS

The Calgary Stampeders, Calgary Hitmen and ENMAX are proud to announce the charitable results from last Friday’s Great Neighbour Game at McMahon Stadium.

Fans were asked to bring a donation of diapers or formula for the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters and the results are simply outstanding.

The final tally saw 28,625 diapers, 168.403 kilograms of formula and $7,264.45 in monetary donations which will all be directed to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters and its supporting member shelters working together to end violence and abuse.

“We shouldn’t be, but once again are blown away by the generosity of Stamps fans,” said Hitmen Manager of Business Operations Rob Kerr. “Their enthusiastic support of our diaper drive was just awesome. We also want to thank both SuperHeros hockey and the Calgary Fire Department for their amazing volunteers who were on hand to receive the donations. This was billed as neighbours helping neighbours and that’s exactly what it was.”

“As a symptom of their abusive relationship, many of the women seeking shelter face poverty,” explained Christie Lavan, Director of P.R. and Community Engagement for the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters. “We want to thank the fans of the Calgary Hitmen and the Calgary Stampeders for being great neighbours by supporting some of their local women’s shelters with donations of much-needed goods.”

“The response from Calgarians to the call to support essential needs in our community was humbling and heartwarming to experience,” said Kara Kingston, Director, Brand and External Relations, ENMAX. “Once again, Calgary’s community spirit shone through, and thank you to the Calgary Hitmen and Calgary Stampeders for inviting ENMAX to be a part of this great initiative.”

The night, which saw the Stampeders defeat the Montreal Alouettes 28-22, included the Calgary Great Neighbourhood Block Party featuring halftime performances from Siksika Nation traditional dancers, lion dancers from Jing Wo Cultural Association and dancers from the Brazilian Community Association of Alberta. Members of the Calgary Stampeders Outriders Alumni, Hitmen mascot Farley the Fox and the Federation of Calgary Communities helped celebrate the over 150 neighbourhoods in our city.

The Hitmen who have adopted, ‘Your Neighbourhood Team’ as its theme for the upcoming season also unveiled a Great Neighbour Jersey meant to be gifted to someone for being a great neighbour.

This one of a kind jersey pays tribute to Calgary’s great neighbourhoods and landmarks is available for purchase to recognize a great neighbour exclusively online at HitmenHockey.com/GNJersey until September 3.
