The Calgary Stampeders drafted seven players in the 2016 CFL Draft, which this year has been expanded from seven rounds to eight.

Alex Singleton
LB
Montana State
6-foot-2, 233 lbs.

Singleton was a three-year starter at Montana State and accumulated 246 tackles, including 31.5 tackles for loss, and four interceptions over his final two seasons with the Bobcats. He signed with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2015, and also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings. The California native became a Canadian citizen in October. He qualified for dual citizenship because his mother Kim was born in Toronto.

Brent Monson, LB coach: “He has a great build and has a lot of range. He’s a physical presence on the field.”

Juwan Brescacin
WR
Northern Illinois
6-foot-4, 230 lbs.

The Mississauga native registered 88 receptions for 1,242 yards and 17 touchdowns over his last three seasons at Norhtern Illinois. As a redshirt senior in 2015, Brescacin made a season-best six catches for 114 yards vs. Ohio on November 24. He earned the Fran Cahill Award in his final year, given to Huskie receiver who displays leadership, competitive spirit, hard work and loyalty. Having attended Indiana’s Culver Academy during his high school years, Brescacin broke three school career records in just two seasons including receptions (70), receiving yards (1,314) and touchdown catches (19).

Pete Costanza, receivers coach: “Juwan has good size and runs well for a big guy. He has good hands and runs well after the catch.”

Roman Grozman
OT
Concordia University
6-foot-4, 310 lbs.

Chosen 33rd overall in the 2016 CFL draft, Grozman, a senior starting offensive lineman for the Concordia Stingers, earned a spot in the 13th Annual CIS East-West Bowl and impressed with his size and mobility. Hailing from Tel-Aviv Israel, he began playing football in Grade 9.

Jean-Philippe Bolduc
DB
Laval University
6-foot-1, 210 lbs.

Bolduc was part of the stingy Laval Rouge et or defence that allowed a mere 240.9 passing yards and 12.6 points per game during the 2015 CIS season. Bolduc attended the NFL’s Regional Combine in Baltimore on February 7^th before being drafted by The Calgary Stampeders in the fourth round of the 2016 CFL Draft. Prior to joining Laval, Bolduc completed a stint with the CEGEP Division 1’s Champlain-Lennox Cougars.

Kahlil Carter, DB coach: “Bolduc has good size and good range. He’s very instinctive and is a smart player.”

Pierre-Luc Caron
LB
Laval University
6-foot-2, 230 lbs.

A linebacker and four-year first-string long snapper for the Laval, Caron helped the Rouge et Or to a 7-1 record during the 2015 CIS season. Caron had 7.5 tackles and was a key part of a Laval special-teams unit that led the Quebec conference in field-goal percentage and was second in punting average. Caron studied Kinesiology while attending Laval.

Mark Kilam, special-teams coordinator: “He shows greater velocity on his snaps and is very aggressive on coverage. He’s young and also shows great potential as a linebacker.”

 Michael Kashak
DL
McMaster University
5-foot-11, 242 lbs.

Kashak played 31 games for McMaster University, recording 62 tackles, 26 for a loss, and 17.5 sacks during a four year career. He also forced 2 fumbles and one interception return for 25 yards. During the 2015 season Kashak made 22 solo tackles for a loss of 12 yards and lead the Marauders in sacks with 8.5 for a loss of 54 yards. He topped all defensive linemen in the bench press with 25 reps.

Corey Mace, defensive line coach: “He’s a very sound player and makes great plays against the run.”

Quinn Horton
DL
Simon Fraser University
6-foot-3, 289 lbs.

Horton was the top tackling defensive linemen for Simon Fraser in 2015 with 22 solo tackles, 8.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. In his junior year, Horton was named first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference. He will potentially get a look as an offensive lineman with the Stamps.
