About last night . . .

Here’s a closer look at Saturday’s 28-7 victory over the BC Lions as the curtain fell on the 2015 regular season:

Ending on a winning note

The regular-season portion of John Hufnagel’s career on the Stampeders sideline ended, appropriately, with a victory.

As a matter of fact, the Stamps rolled home with three straight victories to finish the schedule. Calgary finishes Huff’s eight-year reign with 17 winning streaks of at least three games and without a single three-game losing streak.

Out of the shadows

With several starters getting the night off or seeing limited action, a few of the support players stepped up with big performances.

Rookie receiver Lemar Durant, for instance, had a pair of touchdowns as he played his first pro game in his home province. In a neat twist, his three majors this season included one from each of the Stamps’ quarterbacks — Bo Levi Mitchell, Drew Tate and Bryant Moniz.

The TD pass for Moniz on Saturday was the first of his CFL career.

Meanwhile, receiver Anthony Parker had the second 100-yard game of his career including a career-long 70-yard touchdown catch.

Finally, rookie Greg Wilson had a career-best seven catches including a number of key second-down conversions.

Fourteen is not enough

The Stamps posted the CFL’s 22nd season with at least 14 victories but this marks the first time a 14-win team has not finished in first place. Calgary and Edmonton both finished 14-4 but the Eskimos were awarded top spot in the West Division on a tie-breaker.

Calgary is the only team in league history to record at least 14 wins in a season three years in a row and the Red and White have done it twice — from 1993-1995 (combined 45-9 record) and 2013-15 (combined 43-11).

King Eric

Despite sitting out the regular-season finale, the Stamps’ Eric Rogers locked up the CFL receiving title with 1,448 yards.

It’s only the second time since 1999 a Calgary pass-catcher has led the league as Rogers joins Ken-Yon Rambo, who won the receiving title in 2008.

Cornish is top rusher

Though limited to nine games because of injuries, Jon Cornish led the team with 622 rushing yards.

It’s the lowest total for the Stamps’ leading rusher since 2004 when Joffrey Reynolds ran for 497 yards in just five games. That was the season that started with pass-happy John Jenkins as the Red and White’s offensive coordinator and Calgary didn’t have a bona fide feature back until Reynolds was added to the lineup.
