Calgary Stampeders halfback Brandon Smith has been honoured by the CFL for his performance in Week 17 of the Canadian Football League season.
Smith had two interceptions to go along with five tackles and one knockdown to help the Stamps post a 27-15 road win over the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday.
The first pick came in the first quarter, with Smith returning the ball 48 yards to the Toronto five-yard line. On the very next play, Marquay McDaniel caught a touchdown pass from Bo Levi Mitchell for the first points of the game. The second interception came with a little more than a minute remaining in the game and allowed the Stamps to seal their 12th victory of the season.
It was the third two-interception game in Smith’s career and the first since 2010 when the Oakland native had back-to-back games with two picks against the Edmonton Eskimos.
For the season, Smith has 56 tackles, three interceptions and one sack.
This marks the seventh time this season a Stampeders player has been honoured with a CFL weekly award.
Other Stamps winners have been Jeff Fuller (Week 1), Jon Cornish (Week 4), Marquay McDaniel (Weeks 6 and 14), Bo Levi Mitchell (Week 8) and Charleston Hughes (Week 11).
