When Rene Paredes splits the uprights for three, he’s doing even more than putting points on the board for the Red and White.
Paredes has teamed up Tenaquip for the Kicks for a Cure program, which sees $200 donated to the Prostate Cancer Centre after every successful field goal at home this season.
Having only missed two field goals at McMahon so far this year, Paredes has nailed 14 three-pointers which amounts to $2,800 donated to date.
Prostate cancer is the leading men’s cancer in Alberta with one in seven men facing a diagnosis. Early detection and treatment results in a 95-per cent survival rate.
The Man Van made a stop a McMahon Stadium on Sept. 18 and offered free PSA tests to men aged 40 and over before the Stamps kicked off against the BC Lions.
The former Concordia Stinger saw this opportunity as a no-brainer.
“To be in a position to help a great cause while doing something I love, that’s an awesome feeling,” said Paredes.
The 2013 CFL most outstanding special teams player is looking to add to the donation total on Halloween. The Stamps have one regular-season home game left as they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Oct. 31.
“We at TENAQUIP are very pleased to be the title sponsor for the Stampeders “Kicks For A Cure” fundraising campaign in support of the Prostate Center of Calgary,” says Tony Simone, Tenaquip’s District Sales Manager for Alberta. “Through The TENAQUIP Foundation, our company prides itself on giving back to our community. The Stampeders are a great community-based organization and we are excited to join forces with the team in support of this important cause.”
