The Calgary Stampeders have added international quarterback Austin Dodge, international defensive lineman Quayshawne Buckley, international defensive back Travis Manning and national defensive lineman Brandon Tett to the practice roster.
CFL teams are permitted to carry up to 15 practice-roster players (up from the usual 10) for a one-month period.
Here is more information on the newcomers:
Brandon Tett: Selected by the Stampeders in the CFL supplemental draft on July 7. He was a member of the Portland Thunder of the Arena Football League during their 2014 season, recording 9.5 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery in 12 games. He attended Arizona Western College and the University of Oregon before finishing his collegiate career at Central Missouri. He was a walk-on at Oregon, playing three games in 2010.
Austin Dodge: Signed with the Atlanta Falcons on May 2 as an undrafted free agent and attended the team’s rookie mini-camp. Dodge had a record-setting career at Southern Oregon from 2011-14, establishing new National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) marks with 154 touchdown passes, 17,250 passing yards, 1,253 completions and 373.7 total yards per game. He also won the NAIA championship with the Raiders in 2014, throwing for 429 yards and three touchdowns in the title game.
Quayshawne Buckley: Signed with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers on May 5 as an undrafted free agent and was released on Aug. 31. Buckley played in two pre-season games for the Buccaneers and registered two tackles. At the University of Idaho, Buckley played in 46 games from 2011-14 and registered 72 tackles and four sacks during his senior year.
Travis Manning: Attended 2015 National Football League mini-camps with the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs and was signed by the Green Bay Packers on May 21. Upon his release, he joined the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 6 and was released following the pre-season. In four seasons at Northwest Missouri State (2011-14), Manning had 10 interceptions and helped guide the Bearcats to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2014. With 32 tackles, 10 pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and an interception returned for a touchdown in 2014, Manning was named an all-Mid America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) second-team all-star.
