About last night . . .

Here’s a closer look at the Stamps’ loss in Edmonton on Saturday.

All good things must come to an end

The Stamps saw a number of streaks come to an end on a rainy night at Commonwealth Stadium.

It was the Red and White’s first regular-season loss at the home of the Eskimos since Aug. 13, 2009. The run of nine consecutive victories in Edmonton was the longest in franchise history, with only an eight-game winning streak at old Clark Stadium from 1960-64 coming close.

In addition, Calgary hadn’t lost the Labour Day rematch since 2006.

Calgary had a 12-game regular-season winning streak against the Eskimos going until Saturday and the Stamps had won five straight games this season, beating Montreal, Ottawa, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Edmonton in the first half of the back-to-back series.

Finally, Saturday’s setback snapped a string of five straight W’s against West Division opponents.

After 11

The Stamps missed out on an opportunity to pad their West Division lead, but they nevertheless hold a one-game advantage over the Eskimos in the battle for first place.

Calgary is 8-3, marking the fourth time in the eight years during head coach-general manager John Hufnagel’s tenure the Stamps have had at least eight victories at this juncture of the season.

The Stamps were 10-1 at this time a year ago while the slowest start was a still respectable 6-5 mark in 2009.

Calgary has shown a great ability to finish strong of late — the Stamps are 25-7 in September, October and November in the past four seasons.

Milestone watch

A couple of Stamps players are within range of season milestones after Saturday’s contest.

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell needs just 23 passing yards to reach the 3,000 mark while Eric Rogers is 71 receiving yards shy of 1,000.

Charleston Hughes is the CFL co-leader with nine sacks and with his next bagged quarterback will have the third 10-sack season of his career.
