About last night . . .

About yesterday afternoon, actually, but you get the idea. Here’s a closer look at the Stamps’ Labour Day Classic victory over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Bo keeps going

An Edmonton Eskimos special-teams player tried to play mind games during the opening coin toss by refusing to offer his hand.

A member of the TSN panel suggested that he looked rattled in the early part of the game, perhaps still reeling from having been deprived of the opportunity to shake the hand of an Edmonton special-teams player.

Whatever, Bo Levi Mitchell just keeps on chucking and keeps on winning.

By leading the Stamps past the Esks, Stamps quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell improved his career record to 23-4. That’s a better mark than any QB in the history of Canadian football — Flutie, Allen, Parker, Etcheverry, Moon, Jackson, Calvillo, etc.

It’s hard to have that kind of success and do it quietly, but you could make a case that Mitchell was the third-most discussed quarterback taking part in Monday’s game.

Edmonton’s James Franklin earned some headlines with some solid rookie-season play that last week gave the Eskimos enough confidence to trade Matt Nichols to Winnipeg.

And Mike Reilly certainly was the subject of much discussion after being activated from the injury list and unexpectedly being thrown into game action in the second half.

Mitchell? All he did was complete two-third of his passes for 251 yards and a touchdown as Calgary padded its lead atop the West Division.

Charleston’s kicking it

With three sacks in the Labour Day Classic, Charleston Hughes took over sole possession of first place in the CFL with nine.

That gives the Saginaw Sackmaster a total of 38 sacks in 39 games since the start of the 2013 season. Only two players in franchise history have more sacks than Hughes’ career total of 71 — Will Johnson (99) and Stu Laird (72).

As a team, the Stamps have moved into a tie for third place in the CFL rankings with 28 sacks.

That wascally wabbit

One of the more interesting sideshows to the Labour Day Classic was a jackrabbit who decided to do a little old-fashioned streaking. The fleet-footed hare drew oohs, ahs and laughs with his antics and has inspired this list of Stampeders with rabbit-like or bunny-fied names.
