About last night…

A closer look at Saturday’s 36-8 Stamps victory in Winnipeg . . .

At the half

It’s been 30 years since the CFL expanded the regular-season schedule to 18 games and this year marks the ninth time the Stamps have recorded at least seven wins by the midway point of the campaign.

The Red and White have been at least 7-2 four times under John Hufnagel including the past three seasons in a row.

Wally Buono’s teams started 7-2 or better five times during a six-year stretch from 1991-96.

Teams put up those kinds of records thanks to winning streaks, including the four-game string of victories on which Calgary is currently working. It’s 13th time during Coach Huff’s reign Calgary has won at least four games in a row while the Stamps have never lost more than two in a row during that eight-year period.

Catching a century

During the entire 2014 regular season, Stampeders receivers produced a total of six 100-yard games. At the midway point of the current campaign, Calgary pass-catchers already have seven such games.

Eric Rogers leads the way in that department with four games at 100-plus including a career-best 152 yards on Saturday. It’s the first time a Stamps receiver has accumulated four 100-yard games in the same season since Ken-Yon Rambo and Romby Bryant both did it in 2010.

Marquay McDaniel (two) and Jeff Fuller (one) are the other Stamps to record 100-yard games so far in 2015.

Throwing for 300

For the second game in a row, the fourth time in five contests and the fifth time this season, Bo Levi Mitchell cracked the 300-yard mark in passing on Saturday.

Similar to the stat about 100-yard receivers, it’s the most games at 300-plus for a Calgary passer since 2010 when Henry Burris did it seven times en route to a 4,925-yard season.

Mitchell is on a very similar pace so far in 2015 as he would throw for 4,964 yards if he duplicates his first-half production in the final nine games.

Career-wise, Mitchell has a 22-4 record as a starter, matching Hall-of-Famer Jackie (Ol’ Spaghetti Legs) Parker for the best career mark after 26 starts. Parker lost his 27th and 28th career starts so Mitchell would be alone for best beginning of a career with at least one victory in the Labour Day home-and-home series against Parker’s team, the Eskimos.

Keying on Keon

Keon Raymond just missed out on his sixth career interception-return touchdown on Saturday — he was tackled at the Winnipeg six-yard-line — but he did smash the franchise record for career interception-return yards.

By returning Saturday’s pick for 50 yards, Raymond has 744 career yards on interception returns, breaking Larry Robinson’s franchise record of 717.

In case you missed it . . .
