Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has been named the No. 1 player of the week for Week 8 of the Canadian Football League season.
Mitchell gets the nod after throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more scores in a 48-3 victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks on Saturday. The four-year veteran from Katy, Tex., completed 17 of 25 passes for 243 yards and ran the ball three times for 22 yards before being taken out of the game in the third quarter with the Stamps leading 40-3.
It’s the second time in his career that he has accumulated two throwing touchdowns and two rushing scores in the same game — he previously accomplished the feat on Sept. 6, 2014, against the Edmonton Eskimos.
For the season, Mitchell has completed 141 of 219 passes for 1,865 yards and nine touchdowns and carried the ball 10 times for 50 yards and two majors.
Mitchell is the fourth Stamps player to be honoured in the CFL’s weekly awards this season as he joins a group that includes Jeff Fuller (Week 1), Jon Cornish (Week 4) and Marquay McDaniel (Week 6).
