The Calgary Stampeders are once again pleased to team up with Purolator Inc. to play host to the annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank.
The food drive will be held on Saturday during the Stampeders’ game against the Ottawa RedBlacks at McMahon Stadium and fans can take part by bringing non-perishable food items or making cash donations. All proceeds from the food drive will support the Calgary Food Bank.
At Saturday’s game, fans can bring non-perishable food items or cash donations to Purolator volunteers stationed at the stadium gates. In return, fans will have the opportunity to receive a digital photo with the Grey Cup and enter to win a signed Jon Cornish jersey. There is also a Twitter contest which will give fans using the hashtag #TackleHunger a chance to win tickets to an upcoming Stampeders home game.
Last season, the generosity of Stamps fans resulted in a record total of 258,000 pounds of food being collected for the Calgary Food Bank. Fans of the Red and White have set a record in each of the past four seasons.
“We can’t thank Stampeders fans enough for their support of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program over the years and look forward to another great showing on Saturday,” said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. “We’re proud to be associated with Purolator in this terrific cause and are thrilled to be able to support the Calgary Food Bank.”
“It’s an honour to once again be a part of the Purolator Tackle Hunger program,” said Cornish. “We’re so fortunate to be living in a great city like Calgary and people here and in the surrounding area have shown great compassion and enthusiasm when it comes to helping those individuals in our community who are in need.”
In addition to the food drive, each time a CFL quarterback gets sacked throughout the 2015 regular season, Purolator will donate the equivalent of the quarterback’s weight in food to the CFL hometown’s food bank.
