When Karen DeMarsh heard the winning 50/50 numbers announced during Friday’s Stamps game, she was a little indisposed.
“I was in the washroom when they called the number,” she told the Sun. “I pulled the ticket out of my bra, and texted my husband immediately and said ‘I think we just won it!’ ”
Taking home $193,325 in the Calgary Stampeders’ largest ever 50/50 draw, the DeMarshs’ win couldn’t have come at a better time.
“My sons and I were in a car accident three week ago,” she said, barely able to hold back her tears. “The car was written off, so we’re going to replace the car.”
As well, the family was forced to declare bankruptcy after finding themselves forced out of work three years ago.
“This will help pay off some of that debt,” she said.
She also plans on taking their children on a much-needed vacation.
“We’ve made do over the past three years , we’ve done the best we can,” she said. “Our three children are thriving, and that’s all that matters to us.”
