The two-a-day portion of Stamps camp ended with a bang. Or maybe we should say with a “bam a lam.”
Yes, it was Black Betty Day on Sunday at McMahon Stadium. It’s a 22-year-old tradition and simultaneously one of the most dreaded and most anticipated days in camp.
It was back in 1993 that equipment manager George Hopkins, annoyed by the players’ choice of music in the locker-room, found a CD with three versions of Black Betty — the song made famous by Ram Jam in 1977 — and hit the “repeat” button.
The tradition eventually developed into an all-day affair on a designated training camp day and there are now no fewer than 21 versions of the song in the rotation, including a version by Meatloaf.
Here is a recap of the day’s activity, non-musical division:

Quote from head coach/GM John Hufnagel on the release of Jabari Arthur, who first joined the Stamps in 2008:
“A very tough decision. I won’t be surprised if Jabari shows up on another football team or maybe with us later on if we get in (injury) trouble.”
