Stamps receive Grey Cup rings

By Stampeders.com Staff

The Calgary Stampeders received their 2014 Grey Cup rings on Friday during a private team function in downtown Calgary.

The top of the ring reads Grey Cup Champions, features the year as well as the Chinese symbol signifying the Year of the Horse. In the centre of the ring are 20 custom-cut tapered rubies encircling the iconic horse logo. Sitting on top of the rubies is the horse set with 50 round brilliant-cut diamonds. The top also includes an additional 38 round brilliant-cut diamonds around the rubies.

The left shank of the ring features the recipient’s name. Below the name are the logos of the 2014 Grey Cup participants and the final score of 20-16. The centre of the left shank features the Grey cup logo, the CFL logo and the mountains in the background. Encircling these logos are six genuine round rubies and one round diamond in the cup of the Grey Cup trophy. These seven stones represent the franchise’s seven championships. Below this is the recipient’s number or position.

Also featured on the bottom of the left shank are the initials J.F. in remembrance of John Forzani, the former Stampeders player and owner who passed away on Oct. 31, 2014.

The right shank features the wording “CALGARY STAMPEDERS” and an image of Calgary’s downtown skyline. Below this is a football with the wording “YEAR OF HORSE” with 17-3 — the Stamps’ cumulative record in 2014 — in the centre. The inside of the ring is incised with the wording “WHATEVER IT TAKES.”

The entire ring features 20 custom-cut tapered rubies, six round rubies and 89 round brilliant-cut diamonds. The ring weighs 70 grams.
