Round 1, 9th pick, 9th overall
Karl Lavoie – offensive line – Laval
At 6’4” and 285 lbs, he played for four years with the Rouge et Or and helped pave the way for the leading rushing attack in the Quebec conference with 235.4 rushing yards per games and 565.8 total offensive yards per game. The Quebec City native was a three-time conference all-star and a two-time All-Canadian during his career at Laval. Lavoie was also a two-time Vanier Cup champion in 2012 and 2013.
“He is a solid football player,” says offensive line coach Pat DelMonaco. “He’s showed some good ability in run game and pass protection and plays the game with physicality.”
Round 2, 9th pick, 18th overall
Lemar Durant – receiver – Simon Fraser
In three years at SFU, Durant totaled 175 receptions for 2,392 yards and 26 majors. He was also named a GNAC first team all-star on three occasions. In 2014, Durant appeared in eight games for SFU, totaling 55 catches for 685 yards and four touchdowns. At 6’2” and 231 lbs, he also rushed the ball four times for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Durant dominated the CFL Combine, posting the fastest 40-yard-dash time and highest vertical jump amongst all receivers and was fourth-highest overall in both events.
The Coquitlam, B.C., native sat out his first two seasons of college football with the University of Nevada-Reno with knee injuries before transferring to Simon Fraser.
“Lemar is a big kid, good size with versatility,” says receiver coach Pete Costanza.
Round 3, 1st pick,19th overall
Tyler Varga – running back – Yale
The now ex-Yale Bulldog has a number of off-field honours to go along with his on-field accomplishments. Varga won the Bushnell Cup as the offensive MVP of the Ivy League and a first-team all-star. He was also the recipient of the NFF Scholar Athlete Award.
In 2012, Varga led the nation in all-purpose yardage per game as both a rusher and kick returner.
His name appears numerous times in the Yale record books — Varga completed his college career ranked second among top-10 career rushers with a 5.6 average and scored 31 rushing touchdowns, good enough for third on Yale’s all-time list.
The Kitchener, Ontario product began his university career at Western University.
“Varga is an explosive downhill runner and is an extremely athletic and smart player,” says running back coach Marc Mueller.
Round 3, 4th pick, 22nd overall
Tevaughn Campbell – defensive back – Regina
In his final season with the Regina Rams, Campbell started the team’s first seven Canada West games at cornerback before being sidelined in Week 8 due to injury. The Toronto native had 17 solo tackles, four assisted tackles, and four pass breakups in 2014. He finished the season as the school’s all-time leader in average yards per kickoff return (21.2) and No. 2 in average yards per punt return (10.48).
A 2013 Canada West all-star and second team All-Canadian as well as a 2014 East West Bowl participant, Campbell was also a decorated track and field athlete throughout his university career.
At the 2015 CFL Combine, Campbell set a new electronic record in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.36.
“Tevaughn has good size, speed, athleticism and talent,” says defensive back coach Kahlil Carter. “He has the skills to play a number of positions in the secondary.”
Round 3, 9th pick, 27th overall
William Langlais – running back – Sherbrooke
Raised in Gatineau, QC, Langlais rushed four times for 14 yards and had five catches for 44 yards in the 2014 campaign.
At 6’3” and 235 lbs, Langlais was instrumental in leading the nation’s No. 9 rushing attack last season. The former defensive lineman played three seasons for the Vert et Or and was also a member of Sherbrooke’s special teams unit.
Langlais earned an invitation to the national combine after an impressive performance at the Montreal regional combine where he finished with the second in the shuttle drill with a time of 4.08 seconds.
Round 5, 8th pick, 44th overall
Dexter Janke – defensive back – Okanagan Sun
A former University of Saskatchewan running back, Janke recorded 14 tackles, five assisted tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble in his one and only season with the Sun in 2014. He was also credited with nine kick returns for 296 yards and 11 punt returns for 91 yards.
As a member of the Huskies, Janke suffered a season-ending injury in non-conference action in 2012 after recording 307 rushing yards in 2011 to go along with four touchdowns. 2013 saw the former running back total 423 yards along the ground in addition to four majors.
The 22-year-old Edmonton native became the first ever Sun player to attend the CFL main combine.
“Janke is explosive and plays with an attitude,” says defensive coordinator Rich Stubler.
Round 6, 9th pick, 53rd overall
Aaron Picton – offensive line – Regina
Starting all eight games in 2014 at centre, Picton has played 30 games, including 20 starts, over four seasons.
At 6’4” and 285 lbs, the Regina product also has experience playing at the right tackle position.
Round 7, 9th pick, 62nd overall
Andrew Buckley – quarterback – Calgary
Born in Calgary and a graduate of Rundle College, Buckley has played four seasons with the Dinos and started every game over the past two years. The 6’0”, 201-lb pivot guided the U of C to a 7-1 record in 2014 and led the most prolific offence in the country. Setting school record in touchdowns, points, and total offence, he was named Canada West MVP and won the Hec Crighton trophy as the top player in CIS football. The Kinesiology major was named the male athlete of the year on behalf of the City of Calgary in 2014.
Buckley attended training camp with the Stampeders in 2014 and is eligible to return to school for one more season of play.
