Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the re-signing of international defensive lineman Micah Johnson. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Johnson originally signed with the Stampeders on May 27, 2013, and has played a total of 18 games for Calgary over the past two seasons. The six-foot-two, 276-lb. native of Columbus, Ga., appeared in six games during the 2014 campaign, recording 19 tackles — including four tackles for loss — and three sacks. He suffered a season-ending knee injury during a Week 7 game in Hamilton.

“Micah has been a very impressive player when he has been on the field for us,” said Hufnagel. “He’s had some misfortune in regards to injuries over the past two seasons but I know he’s been working hard to return to action and I look forward to seeing him play a full season.”

Prior to joining the Stamps, the University of Kentucky product spent time with a number of National Football League teams including the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers.

In 2013, his first season with the Red and White, he played 12 games and recorded 16 tackles, including one tackle for loss, two sacks and one interception as well as a special-teams tackle.

“I’m really excited to be back,” said Johnson. “I’ve been working hard during the off-season, my injury rehab has been going great, I feel like I’m in a great place and I can’t wait to get back up to Calgary and start the season.”
