Sederrik Cunningham had a solid first year with the Stampeders and was one of only three players in the CFL to score a receiving touchdown, rushing touchdown and kick-return touchdown during the 2014 season. He was the Stamps’ nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie.
Over 10 games he racked up 734 yards on 34 kickoffs returns and 358 yards and a touchdown on 32 punt returns. He also added a missed field goal return for 33 yards, two carries for 39 yards and touchdown and four catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.
He scored his first two CFL touchdowns on Aug. 24 against the Ottawa RedBlacks — one on a 20-yard run and one on a 67-yard punt return.
We asked Sed to finish the following sentences with the first thing that came to his mind.
I changed to #17 because… The reason why I’m switching from 89 to 17 is because one of my four brothers I have, Jason Cunningham, wore the number in college and he didn’t get a chance to finish his career. Furthermore, I like numbers in the tens better than 80’s.
In high school I… actually played four sports: soccer, basketball, football, and ran track and field. I averaged 12 points and 14 rebounds a game in basketball; football played quarterback mostly and cornerback and made all-county for both; set school records in the triple jump and 100 and set the nation’s fastest time (at that time) in the 200; soccer? not so much. lol
Playing college football at Furman was… an interesting experience to say the least. Playing for an academic school with a long tradition of conference and national greatness was an awesome experience… even if the students wouldn’t stay past halftime because they all had papers to write lol
I have always wanted to… visit Brazil! Something I’ve wanted to do for years but I know it isn’t very safe so I’ll wait.
My last vacation was… I visited San Diego recently for a small vacation in February, but I do need to take a serious one very soon.
I own a lot of… SHOES SHOES SHOES lol! Those are my addiction. I’ve gotten better about buying them all the time but it’s tough to kick the habit.
The last thing I bought online was… one of those elevation masks. I’m not sure if it works because I just started using it but I will say that they make it harder for you to breathe normally. I’ll give an update on it later.
The last compliment I got was… actually a really funny one I got from a girl was that I was so attractive that “You’re a blessing to this earth, Lord Jesus thank you.” I personally think I’m way overrated but kudos to you mom and dad!
My first CFL game was… a blessing from God himself. Him knowing the struggles I had been through; not being picked up for a entire season by any team of any league, sleeping on couches and in my car sometimes just to train at my college, working in retail, then finally getting signed only to dislocate my wrist and start completely over. So playing in that first game was like an end to one journey and the start of God’s blessing in my life. Amazing.
Scoring my first CFL touchdown… was awesome. Never forget the look Bo gave me when they called the play because he knew and I knew as well that I had a very good chance of scoring on that play. Jet sweep, 20 yards out against Ottawa in TD Place, sold out crowd, fans booing. To score like that, in that stadium, was awesome. Thanks Coach Dickenson for the play call!
