Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that international defensive back Joshua Bell has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In his third CFL season and his first with the Stampeders, Bell started all 18 games at safety for the Stampeders and registered 56 tackles, including three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two interceptions. He also had two special-teams tackles.
Bell had three knockdowns and two tackles in the Western Final and two defensive tackles and a special-teams tackle in the Grey Cup.
“Josh stepped into the safety spot for us last year and did an excellent job,” said Hufnagel. “He was a very good addition to our defence and I’m pleased that he has chosen to sign an extension with the team.”
Prior to signing with the Stamps as a free agent on Feb. 12, 2014, Bell spent two seasons with the BC Lions where he played for defensive coordinator Rich Stubler, who now serves in the same capacity for the Stampeders. In 36 career CFL games, Bell has 102 tackles, 10 special-teams tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
“My first year with the Stampeders was fantastic and I’m looking forward to another great year on the field with my brothers,” said Bell. “It’s a great city with great fans and I really enjoy playing for Coach Huff and Coach Stubes.”
