Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce international receiver Marquay McDaniel has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Despite missing six games with a hand injury, McDaniel was the Stampeders’ leading receiver in 2014 with 54 catches for 792 yards and four touchdowns. He added one carry for three yards, one kickoff return for 22 yards and seven punt returns for 52 yards.

He earned CFL offensive player of the week honours for his career-best 12-catch, 165-yard, one-touchdown performance in the final game of the regular season.

The veteran slotback had two catches for 58 yards including a 46-yard touchdown in the Western Final and seven catches for 61 yards in the Grey Cup.

McDaniel earned CFL all-star honours in 2013 as he led the Stamps with 76 catches for 1,047 yards and eight touchdowns.

“Marquay is a very valuable, consistent and dependable player for our team,” said Hufnagel. “His receiving numbers speak for themselves, but Marquay is an excellent all-round player who contributes to our running game through his blocking and is a quiet leader on and off the field.”

McDaniel signed with the Stampeders in 2011 after starting his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 81 career regular-season games, he has 320 catches for 4,325 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also has nine carries for 64 yards and one touchdown, 75 kickoff returns for 1,541 yards and 102 punt returns for 887 yards.

“Joining the Stampeders in 2011 was a great career move for me and I’m grateful for the opportunity to stay in Calgary,” said McDaniel. “Winning the Grey Cup was a dream come true in 2014 and I believe we have the personnel, skill and determination to be a serious contender for another championship in 2015.”
