Play of the Year Showdown

David Moll

Over the past few weeks, we’ve asked Stamps fans to select the very best Stampeders highlight from the Year of the Horse. In a memorable season capped by the ultimate team goal – the Grey Cup – and highlighted along the way by many spectacular and important plays, that certainly wasn’t an easy task.

Heck, in a season that featured 17 victories, it was challenge to boil the opening list of Play of the Year Showdown contenders to 16.

The field included a little bit of everything – great grabs, shifty moves, offensive trickery, some special-teams magic and some timely defensive gems.

In the first semifinal you voted for the Sanders-to-Mitchell-to-Parker flea flicker TD over receiver Brad Sinopoli’s first career touchdown.

In the second semifinal Jon Cornish’s 78-yard touchdown against the Eskimos in the Western Final won over his career-long 79-yarder against the Argos.

It was a close battle, but the votes were tallied and Cornish’s TD romp against the Eskimos in the Western Final was selected as the 2014 Play of the Year Showdown winner!
