Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, running back Jon Cornish and linebacker Juwan Simpson have all received Canadian Football League player-of-the-week awards for their play in the Stampeders’ 43-18 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in Sunday’s Western Final.

Mitchell is the offensive player of the week, Cornish is top Canadian and Simpson gets the nod as defensive player of the week as the trio allowed Calgary to advance to the 102nd Grey Cup at Vancouver’s BC Place.

In his first career playoff start, Mitchell completed 14 of 22 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. The numbers gave the Katy. Tex., native a stellar QB rating of 146.8. The four touchdown throws were a team record for a division final game.

Mitchell added a rushing touchdown as he helped the Stamps record their second-best single-game playoff point total in franchise history, surpassed only by the 51 points scored against Saskatchewan in a 1964 West semifinal contest.

Cornish had 174 yards from scrimmage and scored a pair of touchdowns in Sunday’s win. One of the majors was a spectacular 78-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter that gave the Stamps a 22-1 lead. Cornish iced the contest in the fourth quarter with a two-yard rushing score.

The eight-year veteran from New Westminster, B.C., had 120 yards receiving on four catches and rushed for 54 yards. Cornish has now run for an even 500 yards in the playoffs as he joins Lovell Coleman, Earl Lunsford and Ted Woods as the only other Stampeders to reach that milestone.

In 10 games this season, Cornish has collected nine CFL player-of-the-week awards.

Simpson tied for the team lead with seven tackles and recorded a sack on Mike Reilly during the Western Final. The defensive captain was part of a stout team effort as the Stamps held the Eskimos without a touchdown until the ninth minute of the third quarter and shut out Edmonton for the game’s final 21 minutes.
