For the third time in Grey Cup history, the Calgary Stampeders will face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the showdown for the most coveted trophy in the Canadian Football League.

The 102nd Grey Cup will be played at Vancouver’s BC Place on Sunday with kickoff slated for 4 p.m. MST.

The Stamps and Ticats previously met in the 1998 Grey Cup, won 26-24 by Calgary on a last-second field goal by Mark McLoughlin, as well as the 1999 game, won 32-21 by Hamilton.

The teams also met in the 1995 North Division semifinal during the U.S. expansion era, with the Stamps thumping the Ticats 31-13.

The Stampeders earned a trip to Sunday’s championship game by downing the Edmonton Eskimos 43-18 in the Western Final at McMahon Stadium while the Ticats were 40-24 winners over the Montreal Alouettes in the Eastern Final at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field.

This is the Stamps’ 14th trip to the Grey Cup and the team’s third in seven years under John Hufnagel. Calgary won the 2008 Grey Cup with a 22-14 win over the Alouettes at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium and lost 35-22 to Toronto in the 2012 championship game.

Hamilton is making a second straight trip to the Grey Cup. The Ticats were defeated 45-23 by Saskatchewan in last year’s game.

The Stamps were 15-3 this year including two wins over the Tiger-Cats — 10-7 at McMahon on July 18 and 30-20 in Hamilton on Aug. 16. Hamilton won the East with a 9-9 mark as the Ticats rallied from a 2-7 start to win seven of their final nine regular-season contests.
