About last night …

Here’s a closer look at Saturday’s 18-13 loss by the Stamps against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Cote finds the end-zone

By catching a pass from Bo Levi Mitchell and taking it across the goal-line on the opening drive of the contest, Stampeders fullback Rob Cote scored his first touchdown in nearly 16 months.

Until Saturday, Cote’s most recent major had come on July 5, 2013, against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.

It was the 10th touchdown in the career of the eight-year veteran, whose primary contributions to the team come as a result of his blocking and special-teams work.

Cote is the 16th different Stamps player to score a touchdown this season.

Double century

Jon Cornish and Matt Walter both ran for more than 100 yards on Saturday, marking the first time since 1996 the Stampeders had a pair of 100-yard rushers since July 20, 1996, when Kelvin Anderson (132 yards) and Jeff Garcia (100) accomplished the feat in a game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The 100-yard game was the 21st of Cornish’s career while Walter reaches that milestone for the first time as a CFLer.

Cornish surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in rushing for the season during Saturday’s contest and holds a 230-yard lead on Edmonton’s John White as he bids to join Mike Pringle, George Reed and Johnny Bright as the only players in CFL history to win three consecutive rushing titles.

More Lemon drops

Shawn Lemon did it again.

With his team-leading 11th sack of the season on Saturday, the Calgary defensive end also forced his seventh fumble of the season.

Lemon now owns sole possession of the team’s single-season record for forced fumbles as he breaks a tie with Brian Clark, who established the mark in 2006.

Lemon is now one away from the CFL record of eight, established by Hall-of-Fame Ticats defensive lineman Joe Montford in 2000 and matched in 2002 by ex-Stamp John Grace when he was a member of the Ottawa Renegades.

Lemon has sacks in four consecutive games and is on the verge of ending Charleston Hughes’ streak of having at least a share of the team sack lead in six straight seasons.

In case you missed it . . .
