Jon Cornish’s latest standout performance has earned him two more Canadian Football League player-of-the-week awards.
The Calgary Stampeders running back rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown in the Stampeders’ 33-23 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to earn both offensive and Canadian player-of-the-week honours. The league’s reigning Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian added one catch for 12 yards as he helped the Stamps improve to 13-2 and clinch first place in the West Division.
Despite being limited to just six full games and parts of two others due to injuries this season, Cornish has won eight weekly CFL awards in 2014 — five as Canadian player of the week and three as top offensive player. He leads the CFL with 977 rushing yards and is tops among all running backs with a 7.7 yard-per-carry average. He has five rushing touchdowns and has added 18 catches for 133 yards and one major.
The eight-year veteran has five 100-yard games so far in 2014 and four contests with at least 150 yards.
This marks the 26th time in Cornish’s career he has been named Canadian player of the week and the seventh time he has earned the nod as offensive player of the week.
