Lemon drops QBs; earns award

Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Shawn Lemon is the Canadian Football League’s defensive player of the week for Week 15.

The 26-year-old defensive end recorded three tackles, a pair of sacks and a forced fumble to help the Stamps defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-24 on Friday in Regina. Lemon was part of a Calgary defensive unit that recorded a total of four sacks in the contest and pressured Saskatchewan quarterbacks into three interceptions.

Despite the fact the Stampeders allow a league-low of 18.8 points per game and share the league lead with 33 takeaways, Lemon is the first Calgary player this season to earn defensive-player-of-the-week honours.

Lemon has played all 14 games so far in 2014 and has established career highs with 23 tackles and eights sacks. He shares the team lead in sacks and is third in the CFL with four forced fumbles.
