Stamps clinch playoff spot

By Stampeders.com staff

The Calgary Stampeders are the first team to clinch a position in the 2014 Canadian Football League playoffs.

The Stamps (12-2) were assured of a post-season berth when they defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-24 in Regina on Friday night. The result ensured that the Stampeders will finish no lower than third place in the West Division.

Earlier in the evening the Stamps were assured a crossover spot in the East Division playoffs when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost 42-20 to the Ottawa RedBlacks but their own victory assured them a spot in the West Division playoffs.

It’s the 10th consecutive season the Stampeders have qualified for the playoffs. Going into the 2014 season, the BC Lions and the Montreal Alouettes are the only other teams who have qualified for the post-season every year since 2005. No other club has an active streak of more than three straight playoff appearances.

The only longer streak in Stampeders franchise history is the period of 13 straight post-season appearances from 1989 to 2001.
