A pair of Stampeders have received Canadian Football League player-of-the-week honours for their play in Saturday’s 14-7 victory over the BC Lions.
For the fourth time this season and for the 25th time in his career, Jon Cornish is the Canadian player of the week. Jock Sanders, meanwhile, picks up his second nod this season as special teams player of the week.

Cornish ran for 156 yards last week against the Lions, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. It’s the fourth straight game in which he’s surpassed the 100-yard mark and it marked the third time this season he has amassed at least 150 yards on the ground.
Despite playing in just six of 13 games this season, Cornish ranks second in the CFL with 743 yards and he trails leader Brandon Whitaker of the Montreal Alouettes by just 21 yards.
The New Westminster, B.C., native also contributed three catches for 20 yards in last week’s game in helping the Stampeders improve to 11-2.
Sanders was honoured after accumulating 156 total return yards against the Lions. He returned three kickoffs for 55 yards (an average of 18.3 yards per return) and he had 101 yards on six punt returns (an average of 16.8 yards).
He leads the Stampeders with 893 total return yards and is second in the CFL with 462 punt-return yards.
