Rene Paredes regularly kicks good field goals. In fact, the four-year CFL veteran has an astonishing 87.8% completion rating when it comes to field goals throughout his young but illustrious career.
This season, Paredes has decided to make his field goals count for more than just points on the scoreboard.
Paredes and Jencor Mortgage Corporation have teamed up to donate $100 for every successful field goal this season. The Calgary Stampeders Foundation has decided to match this gesture of good will, also donating $100 for every successful three-point play made by Paredes.
With each successful field goal the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation will receive a $200 donation thanks to Rene Paredes and the Jencor Mortages Kick for Kids program.
The former Concordia Stinger saw this opportunity as a no-brainer.
“To be in a position to help a great cause while doing something I love, that’s an awesome feeling,” said Paredes.
Paredes has been a regular participant with the Every Yard Count’s Program since his arrival to Calgary in 2011. The EYC program sees Stampeders players visit the Alberta Children’s Hospital the day before each home game, something Paredes rarely misses.
The Venezuelan-born kicker admits he has a strong appreciation for the Alberta Children’s Hospital and its foundation. Hardly ever missing an opportunity to visit with the kids, Paredes prides himself on being one of the best Stampeder finger painters and better than average when it comes to handing out smiles to the kids at the hospital.
“I love being able to visit the kids and help make their day better,” said Paredes. “Jabs, Smitty, Chevy and I all have a connection to the hospital; we each have our own programs and I’m thrilled to have my own this year.”
Through 13 games in the 2014 season the CFL’s Special Teams player of 2013 has successfully booted 26 field goals. Good for a $5,200 donation to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Stamps travel to Saskatchwan to face the Riders on Friday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. with Paredes looking to add to that total.
