Frank Beltre made his Canadian Football League debut Sunday and felt right at home on the Stampeders defensive line.

“At the end of the day, it’s just football,” said the Towson University alumnus, who joined the Stamps on Sept. 10. “There’s a few little differences but at the end of the day, it’s just football.”

Though happy to see game action, Beltre would prefer to put his CFL debut — a 31-15 Stamps loss — behind him.

“As a loss,” he said, “there’s nothing I want to remember from it. I just want to get back to work and do better. It was a tough loss, we just need to go back to the drawing board.”

Beltre managed to find the stat sheet with two defensive tackles but aims to improve in his second performance. When asked what he needs to do to make the correct adjustments, Beltre didn’t hesitate.

“It’s just me getting used to being out there,” said Beltre.  “Me personally, getting more used to the playbook so I can help out a lot more.”

Beltre plans on defensive line coach DeVone Claybrooks to help him accelerate his CFL education.

“Coach Clay has been helping me a lot since I’ve got here,” said Beltre. “I’m looking forward to getting this down though.”

Beltre, who attended training camp with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers in 2013, believes he’s well suited to the Canadian game.

“It was very fast, and I loved it,” said Beltre. “I just want to help wherever they need me. If the coach wants to throw me around, that’s fine, I’m happy to help wherever.”

Beltre’s second game could come this week as the Stamps prepare to host the BC Lions.

“We all want to just getting better all around,” he said. “Just getting back on that winning streak that the team had when I came here.”
