Here’s a closer look at the Stampeders’ 41-34 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
How sweep it is
With Saturday’s victory, the Stamps completed a sweep of the season series against the Eskimos. Calgary scored a total of 95 points in the three victories this season, an average of 31.7 points per game against an Edmonton defence that has allowed an average of 16.5 points per game against the rest of the CFL.
This marks the third consecutive year Calgary has swept its Battle of Alberta rival in the season series, with the Stamps winning a total of 10 games over those three seasons.
Calgary has won the Labour Day Rematch eight years in a row and has swept the Labour Day home-and-home series three straight seasons.
Bo’s double-double
Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell on Saturday became the first player in CFL history to win 12 of his first 13 starts.
He had been tied with Jackie Parker and Jim Van Pelt for the best start ever at 11-1.
Mitchell accomplished the feat in style, too, as he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores. The third-year pivot out of Eastern Washington University now has 15 passing TDs (ranking him second in the CFL to Toronto’s Ricky Ray, who has 16) and four rushing majors (good for a third-place tie in the league stats) in 10 games this season.
Nichols on other side of coin
On the other side of the quarterback spectrum, Edmonton’s Matt Nichols fell to 0-4 as a starter. All four of those starts and losses have come against the Stampeders.
Cornish does it again
Jon Cornish followed up his 163-yard effort in the Labour Day Classic with 109 yards in the Rematch.
Cornish has cracked the 100-yard mark seven times in 10 career regular-season and playoff starts against the Eskimos.
In the nine regular-season starts against Edmonton, Cornish amassed 1,113 yards.
Prior to the Labour Day Classic, Cornish ranked 19th in the CFL in rushing. After back-to-back big efforts against the Eskimos, he’s now fifth despite missing six games with a concussion.
Up another notch
Saturday’s win was the 82nd of John Hufnagel’s coaching career.
That ties him with former Ottawa head coach George Brancato for 12th place in CFL history. Huff is only one win away from tying one of his former Calgary bosses, Jack Gotta, for 11th place.
With a .691 career winning percentage, Hufnagel tops all CFL coaches in league history with at least 100 games on the sidelines.
Huff vs former assistants
With the Stamps sweep of the Labour Day series, John Hufnagel has now won seven straight games when going up against one of his former assistant coaches. He’s 11-2 all-time against former members of his staff.

Kings of the road
Calgary improved its road record to 5-0, ensuring the Stamps will finish with a winning record away from McMahon for the fifth year in a row and for the sixth time in seven seasons under John Hufnagel.
The run of winning road records matches the franchise best previously set from 1961-65 and from 1992-96.
The Stamps also won their first five road games in 2011 under Coach Huff. The last time Calgary had a longer road winning streak to start a season was in 1995 when the Red and White won seven in a row.
