Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish is a double winner in the Canadian Football League player-of-the-week awards for Week 10.
The veteran earned both the offensive and top Canadian awards after rushing for 163 yards and one touchdown in the Stamps’ 28-13 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos in the Labour Day Classic at McMahon Stadium. Cornish also had one catch for two yards.
Cornish’s rushing yardage came on 17 carries, which gave him an average of 9.6 yards per rush. It was the third game in a row against the Eskimos he has cracked the 100-yard plateau.
Despite missing six full games and part of a seventh this season because of a concussion, Cornish still ranks 12th in the CFL with 304 rushing yards in 2014 and he is among the league leaders with an average of 6.5 yards per carry.
This marks the 22nd time in Cornish’s career that he has been named Canadian player of the week and the fifth time he has earned offensive player-of-the-week honours.
