Canadian Armed Forces honoured

The day at McMahon Stadium started on a high note with not one but two flyovers by a CF-18 fighter aircraft.

It ended with a Stampeders victory and a group photo on the field that included members of the football and uniformed Canadian Armed Forces personnel.

It was a patriotic Labour Day Classic as the Stampeders proudly hosted more than 300 guests including Canadian Armed Forces members, family members and veterans to the contest and honoured them for their service with the Canadian military. Major General Michael Hood was a special guest.

The combined Canadian Armed Forces Band from HMCS Tecumseh and the Kings Own Calgary Regiment performed the national anthem along with Canadian Armed Forces vocalist Sergeant Bremault Bamford. As a part of the national anthem ceremony, 40 members of the Canadian Armed Forces unfurled a 30-by-60-foot Canadian flag on the field.

Yellow ribbons in support of military personnel adorned the end-zones and special commemorative Stampeders military caps were on sale, with all proceeds directed to Support Our Troops. A portion of the proceeds from the game’s 50/50 draw also went to Support Our Troops.
