The full unveiling of the Stampeders’ Signature Look uniform takes place at the Labour Day Classic against the Edmonton Eskimos on Sept. 1 but today’s practice at McMahon Stadium will give everyone an advance look at part of the ensemble.
Stamps players are wearing the sleek new helmets at practice today as they gradually break in the protective headgear ahead of their first official in-game use.
The new helmets combine components of both Stampeders tradition and innovation. The classic running horse remains the centerpiece of the helmet, but with a bold twist as the iconic logo is rendered in reflective chrome instead of white.
The helmet features a gradient from traditional red in the back to a matte black finish on the front.
Other features of the new helmet include radiating lines, the Latin slogan “quid quid requiritur” — Whatever It Takes — on the rear bumper and “Calgary” on the nose bumper.
Equipment manager George Hopkins, who has been with the club for more than four decades, was the primary driving force behind the helmet design.
