Thursday’s game at Commonwealth Stadium between the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos is a matchup of the final two unbeaten Canadian Football League teams in 2014.

This is the deepest into a season the Alberta rivals have met with perfect records, with the previous occasion being in 1979 when both clubs were 2-0.

The Stamps (3-0) are coming off a 10-7 home-field win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Eskimos (4-0) were 26-3 winners in Winnipeg.

The Stamps swept the three-game season series with Edmonton in 2013 including two wins at Commonwealth Stadium. Calgary won the Labour Day Classic 37-34 on Sept. 2 at McMahon and won the rematch in Edmonton four days later by a score of 22-12. On Oct. 18 at Commonwealth, the Stamps claimed a 27-13 win.

Calgary has won the eight most recent editions of the Battle of Alberta and the Stamps have won seven straight in Edmonton.

The contest features two of the league’s premier quarterbacks as Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell leads the CFL with a 116.2 QB rating while Edmonton’s Mike Reilly has a league-high eight touchdown passes.

The Stamps defence has allowed a league-low 30 points — an average of 10.0 per game — so far this season and the only touchdown Calgary has allowed came on the final play of a season-opening 29-8 win over Montreal. The 30 points allowed is the Stamps’ lowest three-game total to start a season since 1971.
