Stamps acquire first overall pick

The Calgary Stampeders have acquired the first overall selection in the 2014 Canadian Football League draft.

The first overall pick was acquired from the Ottawa Redblacks along with the rights to non-import offensive lineman Marwan Hage in exchange for non-import offensive lineman Jon Gott.

“I would like to thank Jon Gott for all of his hard work and valuable contributions to the Stampeders since he joined the team five years ago,” said Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel.

Hage is a two-time division all-star who played 10 seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before being selected by Ottawa in the expansion draft this past December. He announced his retirement last month.

“It is our understanding that Marwan will remain retired at this time but he provides a potential option in the future should he choose to resume his career,” said Hufnagel.
