Joe West first joined the Stamps for the 2012 season and recorded his first CFL catch and touchdown on the same play on Aug. 25, 2012, against the Riders.
West played four years at the University of Texas-El Paso before spending time in both the NFL and UFL.
After training with some CFL players in the Dallas area, including Ken-Yon Rambo and Quincy Butler who were both Stampeders at the time, Joe caught the eye of the Calgary coaches at a free agent camp in Dallas in the spring of 2012.
Do you want to know more about the 6-foot-1 receiver? We gave him a few words to ponder… the rest is all him.
My first CFL game was… special and memorable. Special to me because I ran my first CFL route right into the end zone — first touchdown, first play, first catch. To me it was more personal because I’m such a competitive guy. I looked at the moment as if I was setting a personal bar.
I will never… doubt my inner ability to show out for my fans. This is one of my passions.
I always wanted to… have a tree house when I was 12. Never know, I could still have that tree house some day that I can share with my son Jaiden.
I own a lot of… shoes. What can I say? My footwork shows they can work wonders when they feel fresh lol.
The last thing I lost… was my wave caps. I just can’t keep track of those things, always getting a three pack and left with none a week later. Haha
Training camp… WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK WORK
UTEP… Beginning of identifying my dream. Never really knew how much detailed work it took but now I have the knowledge, skills, wisdom and tools I need with a better understanding of the game between my ears.
My first CFL touchdown… was against SASK. Not only was it my first touchdown but it was my first victory as a Stampeder. Lego!
The last movie I saw was… Divergent with my lady — great time, great food. I had ordered an Asian salad with kale, spinach, cranberries and almonds. The movie was great as well; I felt like I could relate to the character because their motto is slow and steady “wins the race”. The mind of the character was in its own world and different than others and very intellectual.
